This CL adds a quickfix CodeAction that detects "missing method"
compiler errors and suggests adding method stubs to the concrete
type that would implement the interface. There are many ways that
a user might indicate a concrete type is meant to be used as an interface.
This PR detects two types of those errors: variable declaration and function returns.
For variable declarations, things like the following should be detected:
1. var _ SomeInterface = SomeType{}
2. var _ = SomeInterface(SomeType{})
3. var _ SomeInterface = (*SomeType)(nil)
For function returns, the following example is the primary detection:
func newIface() SomeInterface {
return &SomeType{}
}
More detections can be added in the future of course.

GenericAssignableTo which reports if, for generic types V and T with the
same number of type parameters, all instantiations V[A_1, ..., A_N] are
assignable to the corresponding instantiation T[A_1, ..., A_N].

To answer these questions, add ListImports, which tells you about the

This CL fixes a several bugs in workspace invalidation:
- When invalidating the workspace due to a change in gopls.mod or
go.work files, we should not update the workspace if the change does
not parse. There was a comment to this effect, but it was not
properly implemented.
- Check go.work before gopls.mod, consistent with our intitial
workspace load.
- If we get an 'unchanged' change (such as a save) to go.work, don't
continue looking for gopls.mod.
A regression test that inadvertently relied on our mishandling of broken
go.work files is updated to have the correct syntax. A new regtest
expectation is added to assert on a clean workspace.

The 'go' command reads the main module's 'go.mod' file with the file
locked. If 'gopls' starts a 'go' command in the background that reads
the 'go.mod' file, there is a narrow window in which that read can
race with the test's ioutil.WriteFile.
This change retries the write (as a user would probably do), fixing
the test failure. However, I suspect that there may be a broader UX
issue here that it will mask: in order to actually avoid the race
without a locking error, something in the LSP protocol needs to be
synchronizing gopls-initiated reads with editor-initiated writes. The
test failure this fixes indicates that that synchronization seems not
to be happening.

We care that gopls operations complete within a reasonable time.
However, what is “reasonable” depends strongly on the specifics of the
user and the hardware they are running on: a timeout that would be
perfectly reasonable on a high-powered user workstation with little
other load may be far too short on an overloaded and/or underpowered
CI builder.
This change adjusts the regtest runner to use the test deadline
instead of an arbitrary, flag-defined timeout; we expect the user or
system running the test to scale the test timeout appropriately to the
specific platform and system load.
When the testing package gains support for per-test timeouts
(golang/go#48157), this approach will automatically apply those
timeouts too.
If we decide that we also want to test specific performance and/or
latency targets, we can set up specific configurations for that (as
either aggressive per-test timeouts or benchmarks) in a followup
change.

This adds two new snippets, centred around string manipulation.
The first snippet applies to variables of type string, and is called
split. When used, it replaces `someStringVar.split!` with
`strings.Split(someStringVar, "|")`, where `|` indicates the location of
the cursor.
The second snippet is essentially the same as the first, but in
"reverse". Meaning that rather than going from a string to a slice of
strings, it goes from a slice of strings to a single string:
`someStringSlice.join!` -> `strings.Join(someStringSlice, "|")`.

The Acquire method is nearly instantaneous; it only potentially blocks
on a small, constant sequence of cache misses, so there is no need to
avoid blocking in it when a Context is cancelled.
An early return when the passed-in Context is canceled was added in CL
242838 to avoid incrementing the Generation's WaitGroup after its
destruction has begun; however, that early return also bypasses the
WaitGroup accounting that blocks Destroy while the generation is still
in use. Instead, we need the invariant that Acquire is not called in
the first place after Destroy, which we can ensure by nilling out
the View's snapshot when we begin destroying it.
I was not able to reproduce golang/go#48774 locally, but I believe
that this CL will fix it. (It may, however, expose other races or
deadlocks that may have been masked by the early return, which we can
then fix separately.)

A call to Underlying() was missing from the computation of a type
parameter's structural terms, resulting in incorrect results for type
parameters with defined constraints. This wasn't caught because all
analyzer tests use inlined interfaces out of convenience, and the
fallback behavior for vet analyzers using this API is to fail silently.
Fix this, and add tests that would have failed. Also update the
normalization tests to use the StructuralTerms API, and delete the
earlier NormalizeInterface API. StructuralTerms has proven to be more
useful.
For clarity, change the StructuralTerms function to accept a *TypeParam

Add a new package internal/typeparams/genericfeatures, factoring out the
check for usage of generics from the usesgenerics checker. For tests
operating on the standard library, this allows us to explicitly detect
usage of generics, rather than relying on a hard-coded list.
To make this work, I switched the go/ssa standard library test to use
go/packages rather than go/loader. This resulted in finding 457 packages
versus 676 (likely due to tests), but my assumption is that this is
still enough coverage.

Semantic tokens will now return typeParameters if the client will accept
them. If the user is not using go1.18, then generic code will not type
check and gopls will not recogize type parameters. If gopls has not
been compiled with go1.18 only some uses of type parameters will be
recognized. In any case the code uses internal/typeparams
to see through IndexListExprs.
There is a global parameter semDebug which should be false in
checked-in code. I use it to see how semantic token decisions are
made; it is for debugging. But there are a lot of small code changes
to restrict logging to a few places.
There is also an unexercised stub to fix a bug where some functions
are misclassified as variables. This will be activated in a future CL,

This CL pulls in the latest changes from go/internal/gcimporter, while
avoiding breaking the build on older go versions. To help maintain
compatibility with older Go versions while minimizing the diff with the
standard library importer, the internal/typeparams package was
significantly expanded.
I decided to use type aliases in the internal/typeparams package on Go
version >= go1.18, and placeholder types on Go version < go1.18. This
reduces the amount of copying needed in the APIs, though it might not be
the best decision if we ever decide to export this package.
Documentation was also updated to be more concise and specific to the Go
version being used.
In order to actually fix the x/tools Trybot for packages using generics
in the standard library, we need to switch from the 'typeparams' build
constraint to the 'go1.18' build constraint. This means if we make any
additional API changes in go/types we'll have to submit them with a
broken x/tools Trybot and then immediately fix the x/tools build.

When resolving a position to a package we must consider all packages,
including intermediate test variants. This manifests, for example, when
jumping to definition in a package that is imported as a test variant
(see golang/go#47825).
For now, fix this by threading through an 'includeTestVariants' flag to
PackagesForFile. This isn't pretty, but should be a trivially safe
change: the only effect will be to increase the number of packages
considered in FindPackageFromPos. Since we are discussing future changes
to the API for querying packages from the snapshot, now did not seem
like a good time to undertake significant refactoring.
A regtest based on the original issue is included.

When searching for references or renaming, we start from all packages
containing the current position. But as reported in golang/go#47564,
this fails if we're renaming an object in another package; we need to
start the search from the package containing the object definition.
This CL finds the missing packages by recursively searching all
locations we encounter. For now, this will cause us to consider the
object location, and may also help us behave correctly with respect to
build constraint variants in the future.
While at it, update the regtests to support renaming. This bug could
be exercised with marker tests, but it's good to have a regtest for
renaming anyway.

Coupling workspace symbols to package checking means that they do not
function when the workspace is contracted, and also forces us to do

This CL changes the workspace symbol implementation to precompute
symbols based only on syntactic information, allowing them to function
in degraded workspace mode, improving their performance, and laying the
groundwork for more significant performance improvement later on.
There is some loss of precision where we can't determine the kind of a
symbol from syntactic information alone, but this is minor: we fall back
on 'Class' if we can't determine whether a type definition is a basic
type, struct, or interface.

Template tokenization was handling quoting incorrectly.
(The previous code would misunderstand {{"{{"}}.)
While the user is typing an action in a template file the template
parser was returning a correct but useless error, so gopls had no
information about the file. The new code improves this by tokenizing
and parsing an adjusted version of the file. That is, it can sometimes
tell when the user has started typing an action so the {{, }} delimiters
are unbalanced. It replaces the new {{ by blanks, thereby suppressing
a lot of useless error messages from gopls.
Something like this seems to be a prerequisite for provdiding completions
based on the contents of the rest of the file.

Fix this by adjusting the internal/typeparams API. Also update a few
tests accordingly.
Bump the build constraint used by the internal/typeparams package to
go1.18, as we are no longer compatible with the 1.17 typeparams API. It
is no long possible to opt in to type parameter specific functionality
1.17, which is fine as the dev.typeparams branch has moved to 1.18.
Even after these fixes, not all x/tools tests pass with go1.18. Some
completion tests are failing due to finding 'any' in types.Universe.

In my testing, the gopls degraded memory mode (currently set via
"memoryMode": "DegradeClosed") did not save as much memory as expected
due to still type checking all packages in the workspace (even if in
ParseExported mode). It is also annoying to get incomplete results from
references and renaming.
I think we can (and should) fix both problems: don't even consider
packages that aren't 'reachable' via open files, but fully type check
the reverse transitive closure of the packages you're working on. This
CL does exactly that, by swapping out the concept of 'workspace
packages' with 'active packages'.
In testing, this decreased my memory footprint while working on std by
3-4x when compared to normal mode, and 2x when compared to the previous
implementation of DegradeClosed.
It still needs more testing before we move this option out of
experimental.

When we open a file in a package, independent of whether it is in the
workspace, we type check in ParseFull mode. However, several other
code paths don't find this better parse mode.
We need a better abstraction, but for now improve a couple code paths
specifically for the purpose of fixing Hover content.

CL 309276 added logic to retry TestDebouncer if its execution was
determined to be invalid.
Unfortunately it also reduced the delay period, which increases the
likelihood of a flake on any individual execution. This appears to have
more than offset any robustness resulting from the retries.
This CL does a few things to try to improve the test:
- Remove t.Parallel: we want goroutines to be scheduled quickly.
- Increase the debouncing delay.
- Improve the logic for determining if a test was invalid.
- Guard the valid variable with a mutex, since this was actually racy.

used for the existing v1 APIs.
Along the way, simplify the evaluation of remote arguments to eliminate
the overly abstract RemoteOption.
