Keith Randall 2b8e60d464 runtime: make typehash match compiler generated hashes exactly
If typehash (used by reflect) does not match the built-in map's hash,
then problems occur. If a map is built using reflect, and then
assigned to a variable of map type, the hash function can change. That
causes very bad things.

This issue is rare. MapOf consults a cache of all types that occur in
the binary before making a new one. To make a true new map type (with
a hash function derived from typehash) that map type must not occur in
the binary anywhere. But to cause the bug, we need a variable of that
type in order to assign to it. The only way to make that work is to
use a named map type for the variable, so it is distinct from the
unnamed version that MapOf looks for.

After golang.org/cl/210124, I wondered if the same error had gone

Many results are false positives for acronyms like "an mtime", since
it's pronounced "an em-time". However, the total amount of output isn't
that large given how simple the grep pattern is.

Keith Randall 36f30ba289 cmd/compile,runtime: generate hash functions only for types which are map keys
Right now we generate hash functions for all types, just in case they
are used as map keys. That's a lot of wasted effort and binary size
for types which will never be used as a map key. Instead, generate
hash functions only for types that we know are map keys.

Just doing that is a bit too simple, since maps with an interface type
as a key might have to hash any concrete key type that implements that
interface. So for that case, implement hashing of such types at
runtime (instead of with generated code). It will be slower, but only
for maps with interface types as keys, and maybe only a bit slower as
the aeshash time probably dominates the dispatch time.

Reorg where we keep the equals and hash functions. Move the hash function
from the key type to the map type, saving a field in every non-map type.
That leaves only one function in the alg structure, so get rid of that and
just keep the equal function in the type descriptor itself.

cmd/go now has 10 generated hash functions, instead of 504. Makes
cmd/go 1.0% smaller. Update #6853.

Speed on non-interface keys is unchanged. Speed on interface keys
is ~20% slower:

name old time/op new time/op delta
MapInterfaceString-8 23.0ns ±21% 27.6ns ±14% +20.01% (p=0.002 n=10+10)

Keith Randall fbfb41e638 runtime: switch default order of hashing algorithms
Currently the standard hasher is memhash, which checks whether aes
instructions are available, and if so redirects to aeshash.

With this CL, we call aeshash directly, which then redirects to the
fallback hash if aes instructions are not available.

This reduces the overhead for the hash function in the common case,
as it requires just one call instead of two. On architectures which
have no assembly hasher, it's a single jump slower.

Thanks to Martin for this idea.

Since barrier-less memclr is only safe in very narrow circumstances,
this commit renames memclr to avoid accidentally calling memclr on

worth some effort to prevent. In the near term, this will also prevent
bugs creeping in from any concurrent CLs that add calls to memclr; if
this happens, whichever patch hits master second will fail to compile.

This also adds the other new memclr variants to the compiler's
builtin.go to minimize the churn on that binary blob. We'll use these
in future commits.

David Crawshaw f135c32640 runtime: initialize hash algs before typemap
When compiling with -buildmode=shared, a map[int32]*_type is created for
each extra module mapping duplicate types back to a canonical object.
This is done in the function typelinksinit, which is called before the

implementation. The result is typemap becomes unusable after
runtime initialization.

The fix in this CL is to move algorithm init before typelinksinit in
the runtime setup process. (For 1.8, we may want to turn typemap into
a sorted slice of types and use binary search.)

There's no need for 8 different ways to represent that a type is
non-comparable.

While here, move AMEM out of the runtime-known algorithm values since
it's not needed at run-time, and get rid of the unused AUNK constant.

Change compiler-invoked interface functions to directly take
iface/eface parameters instead of fInterface/interface{} to avoid
needing to always convert.

For the handful of functions that legitimately need to take an
interface{} parameter, add efaceOf to type-safely convert *interface{}
to *eface.

Keith Randall 91059de095 runtime: make aeshash more DOS-proof
Improve the aeshash implementation to make it harder to engineer collisions.

1) Scramble the seed before xoring with the input string. This
makes it harder to cancel known portions of the seed (like the size)
because it mixes the per-table seed into those other parts.

2) Use table-dependent seeds for all stripes when hashing >16 byte strings.

For small strings this change uses 4 aesenc ops instead of 3, so it
is somewhat slower. The first two can run in parallel, though, so
it isn't 33% slower.

Keith Randall d5e4c4061b runtime: remove size argument from hash and equal algorithms
The equal algorithm used to take the size
   equal(p, q *T, size uintptr) bool
With this change, it does not
   equal(p, q *T) bool
Similarly for the hash algorithm.

The size is rarely used, as most equal functions know the size
of the thing they are comparing. For instance f32equal already
knows its inputs are 4 bytes in size.

For cases where the size is not known, we allocate a closure
(one for each size needed) that points to an assembly stub that
reads the size out of the closure and calls generic code that
has a size argument.

Reduces the size of the go binary by 0.07%. Performance impact
is not measurable.

Keith Randall ce5cb037d1 runtime: use some startup randomness in the fallback hashes
Fold in some startup randomness to make the hash vary across
different runs. This helps prevent attackers from choosing
keys that all map to the same bucket.

Also, reorganize the hash a bit. Move the *m1 multiply to after
the xor of the current hash and the message. For hash quality
it doesn't really matter, but for DDOS resistance it helps a lot
(any processing done to the message before it is merged with the
random seed is useless, as it is easily inverted by an attacker).

Contains a mixture of ideas from cityhash and xxhash.

Compared to our old fallback on ARM, it's ~no slower on

importantly, it is a much better hash function and thus has
less chance of bad behavior.
